Free Tax Clinic Notice

The Nepalese Canadian Community of Waterloo Region (NCCWR) will be hosting a Free Tax Clinic as part of the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP). Our dedicated volunteers will assist eligible individuals in filing their tax returns. To secure your appointment, kindly book online and ensure to bring all necessary documents at your scheduled time. Our volunteers will diligently prepare and file/e-file your tax return. The online appointment portal features 6 virtual booths, providing flexibility to select a convenient time slot on any given day.

Are you eligible for our free tax clinic?

You may be eligible for getting help at NCCWR’s free tax clinic event if you have a modest income and simple tax situation.

Modest Income: Modest income means your total family income is less than the amount shown in the chart below based on the size of your family.

Family sizeTotal family income is under or equal to:

2 persons$45,000
3 persons$47,000
4 persons$50,000
More than 4 persons$50,000 plus $2,500 for each additional person

Basic Tax Scenario: If you do not have any income, or if your income originates from the following sources:

  • Employment, pension, registered retirement savings plans (RRSPs), scholarships, fellowships, bursaries, or grants; or interest (below $1,000).
  • Benefits including Canada Pension Plan, Old Age Security, disability insurance, employment insurance, and social assistance.

Your tax circumstances may NOT be considered Simple if any of the following apply:

  • You are self-employed or have employment-related expenses.
  • You possess business or rental income and associated expenses.
  • You have incurred capital gains or losses.
  • You have undergone bankruptcy proceedings during the tax year (or in the preceding year if the return has not been filed yet).
  • You are in the process of completing a tax return for a deceased individual.
  • You hold foreign property or earn income from overseas sources.

What do you need to provide to the volunteer to file your tax return?

To ensure that your return is completed accurately, please ensure that you have all of the necessary information that applies to your situation including 2 pieces of IDs and SIN number:

  • Information Slips: T3, T4, T4A, T4A(OAS), T4A(P), T4E, T4RIF, T4RSP, T2202, T5007
  • Copy of previous year Notice of Assessment (not required for first time tax file)
  • Rent Receipts
  • Charitable Donations
  • Childcare Expenses (if it applies to you)
  • RRSP contributions & limit
  • Medical/dental expenses not covered by any health plan

 You can request copies of all your information slips from Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) by calling them at 1-800-959-8281 or by accessing MyAccount on the CRA website.
